Biography

Mohammed Adamu Yahaya Askira

Mohammed Adamu Yahaya Askira, affectionately known as May Askira, was born on the 25th of December, 1995. A proud member of the Chibok tribe from Askira/Uba LGA of Borno state, his roots have always been a significant part of his identity.

May's educational journey began at Nakowa Nursery School in Askira, followed by Low-Cost Primary School in the same town. He then attended Askira Junior Secondary School Central before moving to the Federal Science and Technical College in Lassa, Borno state. However, due to the crisis caused by Boko Haram, the school had to relocate to Kafanchan, Kaduna, prompting May to transfer to GSS Askira.

In 2016, May pursued higher education at the College of Education in Waka Biu, where he studied English and Economics until 2019. After graduation, he relocated to Lagos to seek new opportunities.

May's professional life began in the bustling city of Lagos, where he worked with Blue Ridge Microfinance Bank, known as Opay, as an Assistant Training Manager. After three years, he returned to Askira and served as a civil servant in the Askira/Uba LGA as an Assistant Clerical Officer in the Admin Department. His thirst for knowledge led him back to Lagos, where he studied Sound Engineering at Kairos Polytechnic in Alimosho.

By 2023, May had obtained a license to start a courier company, Askira Logistics and Co, serving Lagos and Ogun state. As the current MD/CEO, he continues to lead the organization with dedication and vision.

May's passion for music and Hausa cinema, particularly inspired by Aadam Zango, led him to contribute significantly to the Kannywood industry and the Nigerian entertainment scene as a whole. His first song, Labarina, resonated with many as it narrated his struggles and journey to becoming a legendary musician in Hausa reggae, country, and hip-hop music. His first album, Babban Fada, is a collection of traditional royal songs honoring the Lamido of Adamawa. His subsequent works include Labarina, Soyyaya Tarko, and Guntun Labari. His talent has been recognized with awards such as the Ayma Award, Best Hausa Singer Award at Unilag, Eko Golf Club Award for Best Rapper 2023, and the Arewa Community Award in Obalende, Lagos.
